11.14: Revision of Game Mechanics and Features
Get in the Coop » Devlog
- Take away focus (or entirely) from “minigames”
- More of a feature than core gameplay
- Take away focus from individual chickens, general types of chickens (and one unusual chicken (?))
- Focus on the original idea, herding chickens
- Features:
- Chasing them
- To what location?
- Does it have to be against the wall? Can it be to a highlight location?
- Depends on how much we want “kabedoning” to be part of the game
- Depends on our theme, are we a farmer? Or someone in the pursuit of love… in chickens?
- Is the game revolving around love? Or a task that you are given?
- Interacting (dialogue)
- After chasing the chicken to the appropriate spot, unlock dialogue feature
- This is where we can work on other features according to the time left
- Possible features:
- Level design, some sort of progression of difficulty that correlates to different kinds of chickens and values to play around with
- “Chicken” book (collection of chickens)
- Album book
- Selfies, placing a chicken into the world and taking pictures, sort of like a feature
- Interacting with your captured chicken in a digital or physical space
- Are they placed into a space or are they in some sort of “pen” on your phone where you can interact
- Decision:
- The character, the player, is just doing their job, which is chasing chickens
- Concept: You are a worker herding chickens into their coop
- Taking away the theme of “chasing for love”, well maybe there can be some aspect of affection like petting, but not like full-on LOVE
- Chasing chickens to their coop
- What does this house mean?
- It is the physical (and digital) “goal” of the player
- Does it look like a fence looking coop thing? (what is this? Minecraft?)
- How is the house spawned into the space?
- Spawned within each “level” of the game?
- How many chickens are we spawning into a single space?
- Multiple chickens at once
- Feature to think about:
- Level design, level progression in difficulty
- Capturing rare chickens, Levels? Traits?
- Since this is an environment where you herd chickens, is there a farm that players can access?
- Juiciness:
- Visual Cues: Some sort of visual effect [cartoon-y style] Chicken detect you, you are in range of chicken herding
- Phone vibration?, Victory, goal
- Music, audio playing when chasing chickens
- Peaceful music, to some hardcore car chase music (or something similar but not as intense)
- Rooster sound when goal is reached
- Chicken noises, lots of chicken noises
- Rubber chicken toy sound
- UI:
- Start Screen
- A Start button
- Right now a “pause button” for sure
- A Panel? Home button
